Tally-Ho Hunting Safaris - newsletter December 2021

Hi all

I have not done a newsletter in a long while, I guess all the covid bullshit got me distracted and just keeping the business going and trying to get clients out to SA and hunting kept me busy enough.

So here is a newsletter that I hope u enjoy...

Omicron omicron omicron, covid covid covid…. well well well, enough to make anyone negative and “gatvol” as we say in south Africa. Travel bans and the like tend to keep me from really putting out prices and convincing clients and friends to come and visit because we just don’t know when the next string of bullshit is going to hit us. So, with my little rant out of the way let’s put a positive spin on things.

The rain started to fall around mid-November, that’s a normal time for Alldays and seems like the veld is responding well and the greenery is coming out. 2021 was certainly and interesting season to say the least. We hosted around 25 international clients and about 60 south African clients through the year, harvesting around 400 head of game. We now know exactly how, where, when to do covid tests for return travel. Some interesting hunts this year with a first honey badger ever harvested at Tallyho, this was a fun and exciting hunt. The kudu bulls were in good numbers this year and the veld really looked better after taking off good number of zebra and blue wildebeest last year. This definitely helped the veld and in turn other species to recover.

I believe some good memories were made during the year. Especially with a lot of youngsters, first time, hunters. We “blooded a couple of men this year as well as kids. This is truly a satisfying and enjoyable experience for me to introduce new hunters to the sport and get them started on their hunting/life journey.

I definitely noticed an average trophy improvement in certain species, such as impala, sable, warthog and kudu, compared to the previous year. I would assume it to be due to the covid year of 2020.

Because of there being basically no international travel in 2020 we couldn’t get the usual dedicated cull hunts done then. Tallyho undertook a culling exercise on our own as we had to cull zebra and wildebeest in order to prevent sever overgrazing and habitat loss. Due to this we didn’t do much culling in 2021 but we did do some limited cull hunts with international clients, and they went off very successfully. Mainly focussing on giraffe, buffalo females and impala as the target species to reduce

My staff and I believe there are no limit to an ultimate hunting experience at Tallyho, change is good, and improvement is better than delayed perfection. If you are not improving, then you are going backwards!!!

Thank you to all my staff for their continued support and diligence in providing what I believe to be a great experience for all visitors, from 4-year-old kids to 70-year-old hunters.

We look forward to continuing the traditions and providing the great experiences and memories at our lovely little piece of Africa.
